outsiders

A friend asked me if I was celebrating an upcoming festival, details of which can be found on the Bakcheion website. I answered:

I’m an Orpheotelest and Hymnōd. I don’t celebrate festivals. (Except the ones the rest of my household keep, which are mostly Norse or Slavic.) The Bakcheion calendar is for Boukoloi and regular Starry Bull folk. Hymnōdai have an entirely distinct calendar, which is solar as opposed to lunar. We have daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly observances. Festivals are a communal thing. Orpheotelestai are itinerant religious specialists, and the Hymnōdai a monastic order. Both are outsiders to community.
