Consummatum est

We did the exorcism over the weekend and it was a resounding success. You can read my wife Galina’s account here. She left out a lot of the couple’s rudeness, and a lot of the hardships we endured to help these fucking ingrates, but that’s alright. We struck a blow against the enemy and that’s all that matters. As many exorcisms as I’ve performed it’s always cool to see the power of our Gods manifest so strongly. I’m going to be offering my divination services later in the week to help recoup some of the costs of this, but for now I’m going to enjoy some well-earned relaxation and continue researching the history of Beit She’an and Jewish-Polytheist syncretisms like these amulets which invoke the Goddess Tyche alongside the Angels. Be well.

  1. May you and Galina both recover swiftly and fully. Hail to all the powers that stood with you all. It is good that someone is doing this work, even for such ungrateful people.

    1. Thank you. And as much as I dislike the couple, there is goodness in them. Throughout his life the husband has been a soldier, a cop, a firefighter, and an EMT, as well as a respected elder in his local BDSM community. Although the demoniac had suffered severe sexual and physical abuse, both as a child and at various times later in her life (likely how the door was opened for her possession) she was still full of kindness, generosity and creativity. It was important not to lose sight of that through this process, no matter how ignorant, rude, conniving and outright hostile and contemptuous they could be at times. Even without the influence of malignant spirits people are messy, strange and full of contradictory impulses. I’m sure no saint, so I’m not going to place judgment on the worthiness of anyone (especially in the eyes of the Gods.) They were in a terrible situation, and unable to find assistance within their own religious tradition. We couldn’t just look away and let them continue to suffer at the hands of these predatory entities when we were in a position to do something about it*. That’s how evil flourishes in the world, t-shirts, mugs, and bumper stickers tell us. They may not appreciate what was done for them (they repeatedly said they “didn’t believe in all this stuff” sometimes right after describing supernatural assaults, uncharacteristic behavior from the wife, and other inexplicable phenomena) and what it cost us to help them, but it wasn’t about recognition or accolades. As Stephen King so often and so fabulously reminds us (even if his politics are shit) when you encounter evil in the dark you must stand against it. I am very glad all of this is over, however, and will be most satisfied if I never hear from or about them again. (Which, unfortunately, is unlikely since our colleague remains friends with the couple.)
