I don’t know anything about women or virtue, so I need your help!

This year for Mōdranicht our household has decided to have a discussion exploring what virtues make for a woman of valor. I would like to extend this to all of y’all. Give me a list of your top 5 virtues. The best answers posted below will be read before our Dísir/Matronae shrine.

  1. courage, piety, fidelity, modesty, humility, perseverance, industry, punctuality, hospitality, reverence, generosity, friendship, honesty, frugality, common sense.

  2. Sovereignty, a woman with her own center of gravity. Honesty of the self, rather than good behavior, I believe in women being true. Devotion, chosen freely to give. Resilience and transformation, the ability to grow and change. Compassion with boundaries, a refusal to abandon oneself.

    To Show Up

    To Pay Attention to What Has Meaning and Purpose

    To Speak the Truth Without Judgement or Blame

    To Be Open to Outcome, Not Attached to Outcome

    To Be Mindful of Duty and Obligation

    In general, Man or Woman, a person should always present their Authentic Selves. Part of that Authentic Self is derived from the Role they fill – caretaker, warrior, scholar, wife, mother, astronaut…yes, there is overlap. Somewhere in that overlap is a balance mechanism (a moral compass, a hierarchy of piety (?)) that is unique to each person.

    I imagine awareness of the individual’s role; identification/adoption of virtues; and “gelling” of the balance mechanism is what marks passage into adulthood.

  4. Really, can any list beat the Woman of Valor from Proverbs? Thrift, industriousness, fidelity, generosity, prudence, wisdom, piety…it may be a monotheistic text, but there’s no quality named in those verses that wouldn’t be respected anywhere on earth.

    1. I used that proverb as a scaffolding to a prayer for Sigyn. It’s a powerful list of virtues (to it, I would only add A) courage and B) that proverbs woman is TIRED!lol). It’s a good list!
