What is more needed than that?

Although I’ve had a couple people ask me to post the screenshots from the Dionysian Discord here, or to share them with them privately, I am not going to do so for three reasons. 1) It would reveal the identity of my informant. While I did not ask them to spy on this group, wasn’t even aware they were part of the group, and couldn’t care less what a bunch of chronically online halfwits have to say about me, I’m not going to burn someone who’s done me a solid. 2) I didn’t come back to engage in bullshit community politics with a bunch of folks I don’t even consider part of the same religious tradition as mine; I wouldn’t have said anything at all if I hadn’t been so shocked by what was shown me. And 3) there’s no reason to, since almost the exact same things are being said in fully public forums at places like Tumblr and Reddit. For instance here’s a conversation about how the Greek Gods will punish you for holding the wrong political beliefs, or even not affirming the most extreme positions in a party’s platform vehemently enough; and here Zeus and Nemesis are petitioned for the deaths of both Jewish soldiers and civilians (who have no more say in how their government conducts itself than Americans or Brits do) with many of the same individuals participating. If you allow such beliefs and behaviors to go unchallenged that will become the public face of your religion. Be the alternative you want others to see, however you are best suited to do that. If you don’t know what that way is, pray to your Gods and spirits for guidance, inspiration and discernment. It doesn’t have to be eloquent. “O Gods, I am confused. Please help me find understanding, live virtuously, and each day serve as a better instrument of your will in the world.” What is more needed than that?

    1. Heaven forfend! The only thing I’m on is WordPress, Gods, and copious amounts of drugs.

A member of a private Dionysian Discord shared some screenshots from there that they were uncomfortable with. And this was someone I didn’t even know, who had repeated nasty rumors about me because that’s what everyone said any time the subject came up. Their wake-up moment came when someone on a forum challenged them for proof of their assertions and all they could find was the opposite. Gods, that has to suck. I wish people hated me for the right reasons. I’ve certainly provided enough of them.

  1. Honestly? I’m not interested in who said it. Based on context clues I already know it’s someone from a long list of people that I don’t respect. Traitors, liars, and blasphemers all of them. Most of your critics these days can’t even name a thing about you. I know because I have asked them to and they fail miserably.

    1. Ironically you could probably rattle off a list of my genuine vices and shortcomings better than any of them — and some things you probably see better even than I do myself. That’s what annoys me most about this shit. I have faults aplenty. By all means, hold me accountable for those things. Don’t invent crazy bullshit, and repeat it unthinkingly.

  2. Hi Sannion! You don’t know me, I’ve been reading your works for years though, and very much appreciate so many things you’ve produced. I am also so glad you are posting again.

I took the time to read through the reddit links you’ve posted and I am beyond horrified, for so many reasons. It’s hard not to see forces of putrefaction and darkness reflected in the drivel that comes from these quarters, and that it is allowed to go unchecked, nay, encouraged even, blows my mind.

I am grateful that you continue to create and build in the face of such foulness.

    1. Ma’at is such a precious but fragile thing. Every day we must do everything in our power to preserve and strengthen it. And then do it again the next day. And the day after. Etc. That is even more difficult in a world spinning out of control, with no solid center. Although it frustrates and disappoints me, I do not blame them for getting caught up in these currents, for uncritically accepting lies, for giving into their baser instincts. Such is human nature, unless we do the hard, complicated work of interrogating ourselves and ensuring that our beliefs and our actions further Ma’at and decrease Isfet. Some may even think that’s what they’re doing, which is often the saddest part. Their better natures are being hijacked and warped, so that they serve the forces of Isfet while thinking they are doing Ma’at. I am not a wise man, and would begin to know what the answers to these greater questions are. And that is why I concern myself with the small things, which I can know, which are in my power to control.
