There’s never a dull moment when you’re doing a live internet radio call in show.
A couple hours before air time Galina goes on a Celtic pagan show on the same network to talk about ancestor veneration since this is the time of year when a lot of folks tend to focus on the dead and the underworld powers. That’s what they’d invited her on for, that’s what she’d prepared to discuss and yet she keeps getting hit with all of these random off topic questions. She does her best to field them, remain civil and bring it back round to a conversation on the ancestors but it was tough. Real tough.
So then we’re about twenty minutes into our show with guest Ruadhán McElroy and we’re finally getting into a groove as we talk about Eros worship and the differences between Athens and Boiotia and art and Mod culture and then all of a sudden the host of the earlier show calls up and completely derails everything. He’s convinced that Galina didn’t properly understand a point he had been trying to make before about how the gods were once humans. (Oh, she got it. She was just keeping her comments clipped to avoid making a scene.) We eventually get him off the line and Ruadhán graciously tries to get back on track without making a big deal about the interruption. Ten minutes or so pass and the guy calls back again and launches into some diatribe about emanationism.
Because, apparently, we polytheists can’t get together to talk about our gods and cultural matters without our more enlightened pagan brethren feeling the need to come into our places and properly educate us.
Fuck man, I’m really sorry you had to deal with that Ruadhán. It’s nerve-wracking enough coming on the air and being put on the spot like that without having to navigate community drama on top of everything. I especially feel bad that we weren’t able to get to some of the topics you had wanted to address such as queer issues within paganism and the art of drag. In two weeks we’ll have Indigo Celeste on to talk about those very things so I encourage Ruadhán and everyone else to call in with TOPICAL questions and comments.
