If you’ve ever wondered why I do the street corner oracles and the writing pledge drives, it’s because of what she describes here. That level of freedom and intimacy with the audience — there’s nothing else like it. The opportunity to be open, to share experiences with people, to let whatever is going to flow flow forth. It’s great.
But enough of my natterings. Watch it. You won’t regret doing so, I promise.
Her comments about interacting with lonely people moved me tremendously. That, giving that type of soul to soul acknowledgement is sacred work. It brings the broken, the lost, the discarded (and who the hell are we to discard ANYONE!) back into the warmth and recognition of their humanity. That is sacred, sacred work.
I know. She’s a living saint in her weird way.
Wow, this lady is amazing.
She’s a huge inspiration to me.
I don’t actually like The Dresden Dolls, but she…
..she is amazing.
Agreed. I think their music is alright, but nowhere near as enjoyable as her solo work. She really came into her own when she broke free of the record label.
Wow–that was wonderful! I have not heard much of her music, nor have I yet read (though I have owned it for nearly three years) Who Killed Amanda Palmer?, but now I’m going to…
And, I also may put out a tip jar on my blog. ;)
You should, on all accounts.
I don’t know what it is, but I’m just not able to like her. I tried a lot: I liked the Dresden Dolls and Evelyn Evelyn, plus she’s married to Neil Gaiman (whom(?) I adore). She has a personal style and sense of aesthetics that is right up my alley and yet I just can’t stand her. :(
I feel exactly the same way.
I’m not surprised. So much of her art is infused by her personality and that’s not a personality that’s going to be to everyone’s tastes. There’s actually a number of artists that I feel I should like — they have all the elements that speak to me, I think they are interesting and talented — but for some reason we just don’t click. Ah well, at least they’re out there doing their thing.
Yes, of course. And that’s what’s important. Art should not please as a goal.
