It’s funny. Growing up in charismatic evangelical churches I thought this kind of thing was hokey as fuck. I often felt a twinge of embarrassment for the people writhing about and babbling like imbeciles.
But now, as a Dionysian, I can’t get enough of it.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s still hokey as fuck, especially in that form. But I know the experience that this points to, and that experience is among the most important that we can ever have. The feeling of one’s god moving within them … it just doesn’t get better than that.
I would totally go to a Pentecostal church if they didn’t pretty much universally forbid alcohol.
Yup. I’m down with most religions until they start going on about the evils of alcohol, sex and drugs.
Also, Pentecostals, what with their Wesleyan roots and all, are Arminians, and I’m way skeptical about Arminianism. I mean, Arminianism is probably true, but it’s just so much more wimpy than badass Calvinism.
