Perspective

It’s funny. Growing up in charismatic evangelical churches I thought this kind of thing was hokey as fuck. I often felt a twinge of embarrassment for the people writhing about and babbling like imbeciles.

But now, as a Dionysian, I can’t get enough of it.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s still hokey as fuck, especially in that form. But I know the experience that this points to, and that experience is among the most important that we can ever have. The feeling of one’s god moving within them … it just doesn’t get better than that.

  1. I would totally go to a Pentecostal church if they didn’t pretty much universally forbid alcohol.

  2. Also, Pentecostals, what with their Wesleyan roots and all, are Arminians, and I’m way skeptical about Arminianism. I mean, Arminianism is probably true, but it’s just so much more wimpy than badass Calvinism.
